Cryofreeze Lesion Removal
My Cryofreeze treatments offer a quick, precise and effective way to remove common skin lesions such as skin tags, warts, age spots and certain benign blemishes. If you are bothered by small imperfections that catch on clothing, affect your confidence or simply make you feel self‑conscious, Cryofreeze can help you achieve clearer, smoother-looking skin with minimal downtime. Please note that Cryofreeze for benign lesions is generally no longer available on the NHS, making private treatment a popular option.
These treatments use targeted, controlled freezing technology to destroy unwanted tissue while leaving the surrounding skin largely unaffected. I will always assess your lesion carefully, talk you through the process and make sure the treatment is appropriate and safe for you before we go ahead.

What is Cryofreeze?
Cryofreeze (cryotherapy) is a treatment that uses extremely cold temperatures to freeze and destroy unwanted skin tissue. During the procedure, I apply a fine jet of nitrous oxide or similar cryogenic gas directly to the lesion. This rapid freezing causes the cells within the lesion to crystallise and break down, while the surrounding healthy tissue is largely preserved.
Over the days and weeks following treatment, the frozen lesion dries out, darkens and eventually flakes away or falls off, allowing new, healthy skin to form underneath. Cryofreeze is particularly effective for small, well-defined lesions on the face and body, and is a popular alternative to more invasive removal methods.
What can Cryofreeze treat?
Cryofreeze can be used to treat a variety of common benign skin lesions, including:
- Skin Tags
- Common warts and some verrucae
- Age spots/sun spots (solar lentigines)
- Some types of beign pigmentation lesions
- Certain small benign growth and blemishes

- Growths and blemishes
During your consultation, I will examine the area and ask about your medical history to ensure that Cryofreeze is suitable. If I have any concerns about the appearance of a lesion, I will always recommend that you seek assessment from your GP or a dermatologist before proceeding.
How Cryofreeze works
During a Cryofreeze treatment, I use a handheld device to deliver a very fine, accurate jet of freezing gas to the lesion. The gas rapidly cools the targeted tissue, causing the water inside the cells to crystallise and expand. This process disrupts the cell structure, effectively destroying the unwanted tissue.
The treatment is applied in short bursts, and I can precisely control the area and depth of freezing depending on the size, type and location of the lesion. In some cases, I may perform more than one freeze‑thaw cycle in a single session to achieve the best result. Over time, your body naturally sheds the treated tissue and replaces it with fresh, healthy skin.
What to expect during treatment
Before your Cryofreeze treatment, I will carry out a full consultation to assess your lesion(s), discuss your medical history and explain the procedure in simple, clear terms. You will have the opportunity to ask any questions and talk through what you would like to achieve.
During the treatment, you may feel a brief, intense cold and a stinging or prickling sensation as the area is frozen. This usually lasts only a few seconds at a time and is generally very manageable. For most lesions, treatment is quick and typically completed within a few minutes. Afterward, the area may look white initially, then slightly red and raised. You might experience some tingling, mild soreness or itching as the area begins to thaw and heal.
Aftercare & Healing
Following Cryofreeze, the treated area may develop a small blister or crust over the next few days. This is a normal part of the healing process. It is important not to pick at the area, as this can increase the risk of scarring or infection. I will give you clear aftercare instructions, which may include keeping the area clean and dry, avoiding harsh products, and protecting it from direct sun exposure.
Healing time varies depending on the location and size of the lesion, but most areas heal within 7–14 days on the body and slightly faster on the face. Sometimes, more than one treatment may be needed to achieve the best result, particularly for thicker or more stubborn lesions such as some warts. We will discuss this at your appointment if a follow‑up session is likely.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Cryofreeze painful?
Most clients describe the sensation as a sharp cold, mild stinging or prickling while the area is being frozen. This usually lasts only a few seconds at a time. Any discomfort tends to settle quickly once the freezing stops. If you are particularly sensitive or anxious, we can take things slowly and I will always work within your tolerance.
Will there be a mark or scar afterwards?
In many cases, the skin heals very neatly with little to no visible mark, especially for small lesions. However, as with any treatment that affects the skin, there is a small risk of changes in pigmentation (lighter or darker patches) or slight scarring, particularly on certain skin types or areas. I will discuss this with you during your consultation so you can make an informed decision.
How many Cryofreeze sessions will I need?
Some lesions respond fully to a single Cryofreeze session, while others, such as thicker warts or more stubborn growths, may need one or more additional treatments. I will review the area once it has healed and advise whether a top‑up session would be beneficial.
Is Cryofreeze suitable for all skin types?
Cryofreeze can be used on many skin types, but there are some situations where extra care is needed, particularly with darker skin tones due to the risk of pigmentation changes. During your consultation, I will assess your skin and the specific lesion, then advise honestly if Cryofreeze is a suitable option, or if I would recommend seeing your GP or a specialist instead.
